we/them/us

Opinions formed by errant norms and held by stubborn minds

Confirmed by daily affirmations, led down alleys blind

News and views which serve to feed the certainty thats felt

Avoiding facts which threaten to uset the cards we’re dealt.

We choose a flag which represents the feelings that we hold

And look towards the fictions and believe the lies we’re told

As we seel a strength in numbers we align within our tribe

Despair at what the others think and arm ourselves with jibes

In often jeering rhetoric we make our voices heard

We sloganeer and offer sneers to spread our tribal words

We layer up our arguments and varnish them in pride

We smear the opposition and decry the other side.

We look for reasons to oppose whatever’s being said

Unthinkingly regurgitate the things that we have read

Refusing to concede an inch we doubledown our verse

And validate our reasoning, polarity grows worse.

In this time of opposition where we find ourselves at war

We dig ever deeper trenches and we sometimes break the law

We use slander and we libel those whose views we cant abide

Adding vitriol to poisoned thoughts and know that we have lied.
